Volunteer Appreciation Night

We had a lovely Volunteer Appreciation Night on November 26. Lori and the Staff of the Food Bank made certain there were lovely decorations at Airdrie Alliance, and the lovely people from Manna House cooked up "sinfully" delicious recipes just for us, and we were served to the accompianment of the Manna House players. Thanks to all!

Empty Bowls 2007

Airdrie Food Banks first annual Empty Bowls event was held on June 9th in Nose Creek Park and was a huge success. Its main purpose was to raise awareness of hunger issues in our community in association with Hunger Awareness Day which was recognized on June 5th. Many community members came out to the park for a day of great soup, beautiful pottery bowls and fun with the arts for the whole family. Over 500 bowls were made and donated by local potters, students and staff from Deb's Ceramics and Nose Creek and Ralph McCall schools. Participants choose a bowl for a donation to the Food Bank and received a serving of delicious soup donated by local restaurants. They also received a card with the bowl that was a reminder that there are empty bowls in our community.

There were many hands-on activities for kids of all ages! Many tried their hand at making a pot on the potter's wheel while others made tiles, painted or participated in other hands on activities. Music was provided for the event by local recording artist Theresa Wasden and the Prairie Mountain Fiddlers.

Martin Durocher
named Airdrie's 2007 Volunteer of the Year!

The City of Airdrie held its annual Volunteer of the Year presentation on April 19, at the Bert Church Theatre.

Many deserving volunteers were nominated and their efforts recognized. However, the award was presented to Martin Durocher, who we are very honored to have volunteering at the Airdrie Food Bank.

Martin was instrumental in organizing the construction and move ... click here to read more of this story and read why Martin volunteers

Wow! What a time we had!!

Many Thanks to Gabrielle Loughman and MaxWell Westview Realty

On March 17, Maxwell Westview Realty sponsored a Dinner, Dance, and Silent and Live Auction at the Diamond room of the Best Western Hotel.

Dinner included a 4 course meal and a dance with entertainment by Southern Moon. The event featured a "Green" theme since it was held on St. Patrick's Day.

Our hostess , Gabrielle A. Loughman from Maxwell Westview Realty, put a lot of work into creating a great event, and arranged for the donation of over 150 items that were auctioned during the evening, with the proceeds to benefit the Airdrie Food Bank. Thank you so much to Gabrielle, all of the organizations that donated, and all the generous bidders who made the evening a great success.
