Volunteer Coordinator, Temporary Part Time - Mat leave coverage

Position Summary: Coordinates the volunteer activities of the Airdrie Food Bank (AFB). The Volunteer Coordinator will work collaboratively with staff and volunteers to facilitate our comprehensive volunteer program to meet the needs of the Airdrie Food Bank using industry best practices. This role will also include the coordination of community groups and support of special events.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Program Development

  • Keep informed of volunteer management trends and best practices.

  • Work with Programs Manager to report on grant funding.

  • Represent AFB and collaborate with other community volunteer resources.

 

Volunteer Program

  • Recruit, schedule, train, evaluate, and recognize AFB volunteers.

  • Match volunteers’ needs/skills to AFB needs.

  • Manage requests to volunteer (individuals and groups).

  • Ensure all volunteers are screened to fit their job description.

  • Ensure all volunteers are properly trained to perform duties as assigned safely.

  • Schedule volunteers based on agency needs.

  • Support volunteers to ensure they feel valued and connected in their roles at the AFB.

  • Liaise with AFB team members to monitor the need for additional volunteers to support programs.

  • Ensure volunteers are recognized for their individual contributions.

  • Coordinate appropriate volunteer recognition events.

  • Maintain accurate and appropriate volunteer personnel records.

  • Track volunteer time and commitment.

  • Address minor volunteer performance issues as they arise.

  • Use Volgistics (volunteer database) to schedule shifts, provide information to volunteers, keep volunteer records, and send volunteer newsletters.
